Why ‘Telltale’?

So you’re looking at the logo and thinking “whaaa…?”

Or you may recognise it, if you’re familiar with things nautical. A telltale is an indicator or warning device – on boats, it may be a small streamer attached to a sail, which shows the direction of airflow. Another example of a telltale is sometimes when you enter a car park or similar there might be a thing that dangles down to warn of the overhead clearance.

Of course there’s the other meaning of tell-tale, which calls to mind telling tales on someone in school, or (in the grown up world) the whistle-blower – someone who brings attention to something they feel needs greater exposure.
