Telltale Press & Friends, poetry reading, Lewes Arms, Lewes, Friday 28th April at 8.00pm

Poetry reading Lewes Arms 28th April 2017

Spring is here and with it another sparkly Telltale Press & Friends’ reading in Lewes, kicking off the Bank Holiday weekend in style on Friday 28 April 2017 @ 8pm.

Our guest poets come from near and far.  From Penzance we are delighted to present Katrina Naomi, whose spectacular second collection, The Way the Crocodile Taught Me (Seren, 2016) is a must-read; and we are thrilled to be joined by Brighton-based Marion Tracy, whose dazzling debut collection Dreaming of our Better Selves is fresh out from VanguardEditions.   Telltale poets Siegfried Baber (When Love Came To The Cartoon Kid, singled out by The TLS as one to watch) and Sarah Barnsley (The Fire Station) complete the lineup in what promises to be an exquisite evening.

The event is at the Lewes Arms and admission is FREE (donations welcome).  We hope you can join us!

Telltale Press & Friends reading, Lewes Arms, Lewes 19th October at 8.00pm

In a word: unmissable. We’ve managed to assemble another exciting line-up for our series of Telltale Press & Friends readings in Lewes.

Judy Brown’s brilliant new book Crowd Sensations is a Poetry Book Society recommendation. Jess Mookherjee’s spanking new Telltale pamphlet The Swell is already causing a sensation. Michaela Ridgway needs little introduction in Sussex, beinga leading light in Brighton’s poetry firmament as well as hosting the Pighog evenings. Telltale’s Siegfried Baber (When Love Came To The Cartoon Kid)  is, of course, one of the most promising poets under 30 in the country.

This is a must-see event in Lewes. It’s free too. (Though if you do donate something into the Telltale coffers we won’t object.)

Launch of Jess Mookherjee’s pamphlet

It’s gone to print and we’re getting excited about launching ‘The Swell’, the debut pamphlet from our newest member Jessica Mookherjee.

The official launch event will be on Wednesday 5th October, 7.15pm, at the Pitcher & Piano, Tunbridge Wells. Do come and hear Jess reading from her pamphlet, plus guest readers and who knows, maybe a Telltale-style surprise or two…

And if you’re going to be at the Poetry Book Fair Free Verse on Saturday 17th September, please say hello to the Telltale Poets – not only will be sharing a table with our good friends The Frogmore Press, but some of us will also be reading in the evening at the Square Pig & Pen. Hope to see you there!

Jess Mookherjee, the latest poet to join Telltale Press

We’re utterly chuffed to announce that Jess Mookherjee is the latest poet to be scooped up by Telltale Press.

Her pamphlet, The Swell, will be launched in October.

Avid poetry fans will have not failed to notice Jess’s powerful and intriguingly intimate work exploding into print. Having been writing for a mere three years, her poetry has already graced Agenda, Antiphon, Clear, Ink Sweat & Tears, Interpreter’s House, Obsessed with Pipework, Poetry Shed, Prole… We could go on.

When not involved in this outpouring of beautiful writing, Jess works in Public Health, having an academic background in Biological Anthropology. Now firmly rooted in Kent, Jess spent most of her adult life in London, and her childhood in Mumbles, Wales.

For more about Jess look no further than her spanking new blog thejessicapoet.

Watch this space for news of July Telltale & Friends readings at the poetry cafe, the Autumn launch of Jessica’s The Swell and more. It is going to be an outstanding year for Telltale Press, and one in which Jessica’s poetry will win the new audiences it so richly deserves.

Telltale at Free Verse, the Poetry Book Fair

All the Telltale poets were at the Poetry Book Fair in London on Saturday, where we shared a table with The Frogmore Press… plus it was launch day for Sarah Barnsley’s The Fire Station… – buy it here!

It was an excellent day, we had the opportunity to meet loads of poets and readers, some for the first time, we sold a ton of pamphlets (thanks everyone!), gave away free poem cards and generally stirred things up with our call to (poetry) arms. Great stuff.

Still busy over the summer…

Telltale Towers is ringing with the sound of cogitation as we mull over plans for the next year or so. Some of it is a bit hush-hush at the moment, but here’s what’s definitely happening:

Sarah Barnsley’s pamphlet The Fire Station is coming in September and it’s going to be Hot Stuff. Cover reveal coming soon!

We’re entering both When Love Came To The Cartoon Kid and The Nightwork for the Michael Marks Poetry Pamphlet Award.

We’re cosying up to the Frogmore Press for Free Verse, The Poetry Book Fair in London on September 26th where we’ll be sharing a table and selling pamphlets, postcards and/or all manner of natty poetry doo-dads. Hope to see you there…

‘Cartoon Kid’ reviewed on Sabotage

Another great review of ‘When Love Came To The Cartoon Kid’ this time by David Clarke at Sabotage Reviews.

We’re very grateful to reviewers – there are a lot of publications out there, and getting reviews is a key way to bring new pamphlets to readers’ attention. ‘Cartoon Kid’, incidentally, is our fastest-selling pamphlet so far…

Tamar Yoseloff, Sue Rose & Sarah Barnsley at the Poetry Cafe

Just a week to go till our next ‘Telltale Poets & Friends‘ – our informal reading series featuring special guests. Peter and I hope you can join us at the Poetry Cafe, 22 Betterton Street in London’s Covent Garden, at 7pm next Thursday 18th June.

We’re delighted to have Tamar Yoseloff and Sue Rose coming to read recent work, and also our newest member, Sarah Barnsley. We’re currently working on the production of Sarah’s debut pamphlet, ‘The Fire Station’, which will be published in September. It’s a wonderful first collection and we’re so proud to have Sarah on board. Do come and hear her read and enjoy a sneak preview of the pamphlet.
